Good bacteria is flushed out everytime you have a bowel movement. You cannot lose all your good bacteria with a colon cleanse. The colon is hydrated and loose and transient bacteria living in the colon will be expelled (including the less desirable putrefactive bacteria and parasites). With the removal of accumulated waste results in the improvement in bowel function, this means good bacteria will have a better chance to thrive.

The bowel bacteria that are present on the bowel wall are not removed during the treatment. Those types of organisms breed best in a balanced environment, which a colon cleanse can provide.

A colon cleanse often leads to reduced bowel symptoms and it is believed that this is due to healthier colonies of protective bowel wall organisms.

It is recommended to consume foods high in pro-biotics and foods high in fibre. These help to rebuild the lost bacteria.
